Innovation at Canton Fair: Making Travels Smoother
This year’s autumn edition of the Canton Luggage Fair brought a continuation of existing trends — all aimed at making travels smoother through innovations that make luggage lighter and more mobile.
1. Motorized Cabin Luggage
While at previous fairs this concept was limited to a handful of manufacturers, this year battery-powered cabin luggage was showcased by over a dozen brands. The best models can achieve speeds of up to 13 km/h, carry loads of up to 120 kg, and cover distances of up to 10 km — allowing travelers to ride effortlessly to even the most remote airport gates with minimal effort.
Major Asian carriers and airports now allow “scooter luggage” as both cabin luggage and a transportation method. North America is also showing growing acceptance — I recently traveled from Toronto to New York without any issues. However, in Europe and the Middle East, most carriers do not yet allow it on board, and in many airports, its use is still restricted.
There is no doubt that motorized luggage makes for smoother travels, and as a result, VOCIER has partnered with a leading manufacturer to launch the VOCIER Scooter Luggage. We are currently awaiting clarification and certification for its use in Europe. Stay tuned!
2. Light and Strong Materials
The quest to make travel smoother by reducing weight — while maintaining or improving strength — continues. Some brands presented NewGen blends of classic polypropylene and polycarbonate, while others introduced the first use of SRPP (woven polypropylene), a development sure to challenge market leaders.
VOCIER has chosen carbon fiber for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. More updates on our upcoming innovations are coming soon.
3. Other Mobility Improvements
Further innovations focused on comfort and control. Wide wheel handles and super-smooth, silent wheels — almost self-propelling — are now being integrated into luggage across categories. The wide wheel handle is even making its way into soft-sided luggage, a clear sign of its growing acceptance among both manufacturers and travelers.
At VOCIER, we’re continuously exploring how design and innovation can make every journey smoother — and more enjoyable.
